A few brake questions
 

I am looking at a Bentley manual that says rotors should be resurfaced when changing brake pads. Is this really necessary? Where would I take rotors to be resurfaced. Does any garage do it?
Also, whats the best tool for measuring brake pad thickness? I am looking at things on eBay called "tubular inside micrometers" that look as if they might work. BMW brakes have a little hole in the backing plate, into which you are supposed to insert "BMW special tool XXXX" to measure pad thickness - I assume this must be a tubular micrometer.
Finally, does that anti-squeal stuff that you put on the back of the pad work for more than a short time?

You can drop your rotors off at just about any brake shop (like Midas) or check the phone book for autoparts stores that do machine work. Turning brake rotors and drums is a pretty common service. They'll tell you if there's enough "meat" left before they start because they won't machine beyond the minimum spec.

I think you can get by with a simple Vernier caliper to measure brake parts on Porsches.

I've had great luck with those adhesive pads Wayne sells for keeping my brakes from squealing. I've had the silicone stuff pull loose with the paint on the back of the brake pad and squeal again.
