1981 SC Powered drivers seat?
I pursched a set of seats on ebay from a 944 (1987) with powered drivers side seats to replace the crappy aftermarket seats that were in the car when i purchased it.
Is there a provision for drivers side power in the 81 sc? If not can someone point me in the direction of a wiring circuit for the seats? TIA |

anaphe,
The seats will have the same bolt pattern for install. Underneath the seats will be a wiring plug behind the power motor. You will see two "Brown" and two "Red" wires. 1. Brown is Ground 2. Red is Power Cut both brown and red wires. Leave plenty of room to splice these wires. Cut a 1/4 " of plastic off to two ground wires crimp with a male connector. Add 12” of 60/80-gauge wire to the ground with a female connector. Use a 1/4 wide O-connector on the other end for your ground. Connect the ground to the seat bolt. This is a good area to ground. Follow the same process for the power wire. Note: Add 40” of power wire to the existing power wire. Tap into the power from the cigarette lighter. Hide your left over wire under the carpet. Use electrical tape on any exposed wire. Now your power seats should be operable. Please email me if you need additional assistance. I have other options too! Thank you, Jason |

Hi Jason,
Thanks for the info. Are you saying that I should provide a single ground and power for the seats ie a 1 into 2: power>single red wire>crimped into 2 red wires ground>single brown>crimped into 2 gounds? Why is are there 4 wires? |

You will combine:
2 - Ground wires into one 2- Power wires into one There are 2 Ground and 2 Power wires connected to the seat. The other option is locating the correct adapter. Hope this helps! Jason |

I grabbed a chunk of harness w/adapter from PartsHeaven ($10). Then combined 2>1 as Jason describes and ran both power and ground under the rug to the fuse box. The power sunroof circuit was there, but unused. Attached an inline fuse as added precaution (think I started with 10amp, need to look at friend's '88 911 to get correct amperage, but it hasn't blown yet). Grounded to other stuff under there. Drilled hole in firewall for wires to pass through and added a rubber grommet and dab of black silicone to seal the hole.
Let me know if you want me to send/post pics.

Ha, I did this (with 993 seats) and never thought to ground it to the seat bracket.

I assumed since the factory harness has both + and - that the galvanized body wasn't a good conductor/ground.
At least that's my excuse....

Remeber, these things are over engineered as it is. Maybe they had a wire union to appease.
