AAAaacccKKK! My poor car!

This is painful to watch.

Car went in this week for a major redue. Did bumpers, tail
and interior over the last couple of years but nothing this major.

Nothing this major on any car I have ever owned! Took the insurance check for the total instead.

Scary to drive a beautiful and perfectly good 911 into a body shop and later in the week see this!

Pray for me my brothers!

Why you ask? How could I be so maniac as to go from this:

to this:

Weight is one...details are the other. Never was totally happy with my car as it was being built. Originally I was going to do a 3.6 transplant and 300hp for a N/A version of yellowbird. Never really bought off on the chit bird color though. @ 260hp and 2400#s I needed a radical rethink.

So when I finally decided to do a weight reduction a RUF YB is the last car you your really want to copy.

Here is the hit list of weight reduction:

exterior radio antenna..gone
sunroof..gone
flag mirrors..gone
RSA tail...gone
front nerf bar...gone
back nerf bar... gone
bumper shocks... gone
tail light buckets...gone
rocker panels...gone
some interior panels...gone
1/2 the glass....gone
steel harness bar ..gone
window trim..gone
fog lights...gone
optima battery...gone
short gear, ZF l/s transaxle...gone
930 brakes...gone

Adding...
lighter front bumper
lighter tail
light aluminum rsr roll bar
lighter mirror
lighter battery
lighter transaxle
lighter brakes

Car was 2400# with 1/4 tank of gas when I drove into the shop.
I'll try to keep the thread udated as the rebuilt goes along and the new weight.

oh my......

My bodywork guy scared the **** out of me when I got me rockers fixed a few months ago by giving me a similar, but less dramatic, status update. Those guys work magic, it will be nice when its done. And lighter to boot

Hmm.....the windows are out. 935 mirrors? Silver metallic full respray? Is the radio gone also, or are you going with the later Carrera windshield?

Nope, same color, Shuie, mocha brown. The silver car was just a close relative to what this one will look like from the outside. Adding a few tricks of my own...in the flavor of BCP best grades Keeping the CD player/radio as well.

Still waiting on more mirrors to arrive and a final decision on that issue but any mirror is lighter than the flags.

Dane, you need a GruppeB number now

Why not do a quasi-Yellow bird, with CTR front and rear bumpers, ducktail, no rocker covers...and the rest of what you listed. It'll be about the same weight. There is a picture in the RUF thread with a car w/o rockers, CTR f/r bumpers and a ducktail..it looks good. I think it looks better than a car with the bumper you are going to install...just my opinion.... good luck with the project..it'll be great..even if it's no longer a YB clone

Those are nice seats. For heaven's sake, take them out of the car for the grinding, sanding, and spraying.

I mentioend that twice to the award winning Porsche body shop owner tonight. At $1500 a copy these days to replace they had better take care of them...or they'll be buying me a new set. Couple more c notes than I care to admit in the Bentley wool carpet as well. Best to shrug it off and see how it turns out I guess.

Same reaction everyone who has seen the car "as is" had so far.

I was told, it would all be fine in the end, no worries. They haven't been paid yet Aaaacccckkkkk, my poor car!

Souk, I was thinking you might join us on the way through to clear the highways of Chicago!

You are on for the beer either way. Kurt is 000. I just want to be pain old ZERO

Bumper? Narrow body version of the original IROC, no splitter. Should end up looking something like this in brown and weigh in around 2300 or a bit less I hope.

Imagine this with a duck. How can you live in Seattle without a duck?

I was there when Dane took the pics - kinda had a moment for a bit when I saw the "Dusty Dane" ride !

That shop pumps out great work from a perfectionist owner who is in the shop himself 95% of the time, overseeing all aspects of the work.

Same place I'm having my glass fender/hood/CF tail/RUF F&R work done.

Dane the car is gonna be COOL!

3 questions.

how do you get a lighter transaxle?

how do you get lighter brakes than 930 other than going smaller rotors?

Can I buy your ZF LSD transaxle???? I need a replacement for mine.

...CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE FINISHED CAR.

Dane,

Know the feeling. Had the same when they were cutting and ripping the nose of my car apart. Left and did not want to see the rest of the mess.

Returned a week later and it looked beautiful, so hope yours looks as good or better.

What are you doing with your old brakes? Interested in selling them?

Some of that was simply for shock value

The ZF limited slips are heavy. Going back to a street gear box, sans oiler and LS saves some weight. Not selling my airport gearbox at the moment, keeping it to change back and forth as the need arises. But loosing the ZF for a fully locked box like Wevo's would be something to think about?

930s are cool brakes....but pigs for weight. 930s are wasted on the street. But so easy to change pads. Too bad there isn't a mini 930 system. SC calipers and rotors work just fine on a light car even on the track done right. The 930s might well be for sell shortly. But not till I see a new overall weight from the finished project.

Another cool toy:

Splitter is a carbon fiber add on...already coming

But for a track car...

And more to the point

But there are even better ones..still looking.

Craig, I'd be happy to spend your money here.
Take a look at the front bumper options.

Tooth, I redid the interior and added fiberglass bumpers to get to 2400# on the first makeover a couple of years ago.

I started at 2660# with half tank of gas in factory form.

Ricaros at 15# each instead of 40# for the factory seat is a quick drop.
