Need help finding a few parts ('70 911T)

Got my 1970 911T, and being that it's a project car, I already have several projects that need doing.

I'm going to need new front turn signal housing assemblies. One is busted and the other, well, some retard painted inside the housing! I noticed our host doesn't have the housings anymore, just the covers. I've found a couple sites, but none mention the housings at all. So I'm in need of both front signal housings. I will probably also replace the rear housings as well. They're not as bad, but they're very dirty and may not be worth trying to salvage.

Also, the brake lights are not functioning. I have searched and found that it is usually the pressure switches on the M/C, but my question is, are these a common type of switch (could I probably find them at AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts), or are they pretty Porsche specific (have to order them from Pelican parts)?

Fray,

You may find some good used ones from some salvage – if you are very lucky. New from Porsche they are very expensive but worth it if you want the 911 to look nice. To start off, just do the minimum. See if you can clean the paint off the one and buy a used other front.

The brake lights are controlled by the “brake light switch” on the pedal assembly, not by the switch on the master cylinder. Do some careful diagnosis with a test light to determine where the problem is before you spend any money.

Do you have Wayne’s 101 Projects book? If not get it asap.

Best,
Grady

I would try a Porsche dismantler for the turn signal housings. Not sure who is in your area, but you could call EASY Porsche (Emeryville, CA) or Parts Heaven (Hayward, CA) - Google them for contact info.

The front turn signals are really hard to find for early cars. They can be quite expensive when you do if theya re in good condition. Depending on where they are broken you may be able to repair them with epoxy or fiberglass. Then a quick bead blast and fresh reflective (or white) paint and you are done.

The rear housings will probably just benefit from some cleaning.

Grady is right, the brake lights are switched at the brake pedal. It could be that the ring on the actuating rod is not contacting the switch, its disconnected or there is corrosion at the bulb. Do the the running lights work? That bulb is a dual filament and has a running light and brake light. New bulbs can be found at any local auto store.

Thanks for the input. I'll see what I can do with the housings I have. I know Pelican has the COVER for the housing. If I can remove the housings and get them cleaned up, they may be usable, but I may still want to check into replacements.

As for the brakes Jamie, the lights were on, the left on the low filament and the right on the high (someone probably jammed the bulb in backwards), and nothing changed when the brake pedal was pushed. (tried with the ignition on, and with the engine running, nothing). I checked the left bulb, which is now not coming on at all, and it is VERY dirty. It's possible it just needs a good cleaning. I will probably just buy all new bulbs. I know the signal and brake bulbs are 1156s and 1157s, but what are the smaller bulbs in the front signal housings? They are painted over, and I can't make out the numbers. I may have to pull one and take it with me to a parts store to check on.

I hope it's just a minor problem with that switch. We can check that on Friday, Jamie. I hope to have the throttle pedal and shift bushing kit in by then...

Any idea on the bulbs? I need to know what the smaller bulbs in the front signal housings are. Thanks!
