I hope that it's found whole or that you get a fare share from your insurance company. I feel bad for you, good luck.

Well my 1994 Speedster was stolen from my garage when I lived in Santa Monica. The next morning the CHP called to tell me they found my car, I was totally psyched. Then they said it had been stripped, sprayed down with WD40 and set on fire. They suggested I not go look at it, being that it was found in El Monte. The CHP said they probably put it in the back of a truck and stripped it as they drove. My insurance company is USAA and they paid top dollar for the car. The agent told me they determine value by finding the same make and model for sale and check the price. They try to weight it towards cars in your area, but in the case of the Speedster it was hard to do that. Oh by the way the thieves took my Harley at the same time. Sorry to hear of your loss.

I'd gather as many prices as possible and help the insurance adjuster along. Here's a group dedicated to the car http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Porsche911FactoryTurbo-LookCars/ It can't hurt to let them know and ask abpout current market values.
Here's a value discussion as well: Question about 87 Factory Turbo look

Used to be www.turbo-look.com but seems to be gone now.

Good luck on getting you car. We all need a more affordable GPS car location solution.

There's a better thread for value for you - the one where the guy was asking $35K or so for the white 51,000 mile 491 cab, everyone said it was way too high (as per Pelican custom and tradition), then he got multiple offers over $30K and apparently eventually sold around $35K.

It was in the pelican classifieds in the past 6 months or so.

Sorry to hear of your loss. LA sounds pretty freaky.

Any reason why you didn't go with an Agreed Value policy?

If you think LA is freaky, you should try Minneapolis, MN. or Austin TX. some time. Now that is freaky.

Really sorry to hear about the stolen car. Pretty darn unusual, though. Porsches seldom are stolen, it's gotten extremely rare. Any Honda w/ a VTEC in it will get stolen out of a garage full of beautiful Porsches.

He shouldn't need an agreed value policy in this case, there are plenty of comparable recent sales of these cars. Hang tough w/ the insurance Co.

Mercury Insurance is the King of all Jacks! They did the same to me on my 85 TL Targa. Do not settle until they meet the comps you have gathered. I would get a professional appriasal, and submit that to Mercury. My lawyer informs me that Mercury plays hardball with all their customers. Not that my post is going to help matters, and the ins. commision is of little help, but you can always file a complaint...The more complaints filed against Mercury, the better.
Best of luck to you,

Wow man, I feel terrible for your loss. I'll keep an eye out for you since I am pretty keen on Turbo Look's.

I just hope they don't part it out.

Good luck to you.
