Fuel Sender Unit Seal Question

My '69 has the updated fuel tank (small spare tire) and fuel leaks out of the fuel sender unit. I just bought both gaskets listed but am not sure where both go. One is the cork gasket and the other is a thin rubber gasket. I can find no diagrams showing the placement of 2 gaskets; just the cork on the top of the sender.

1-Where does the rubber gasket go.
2-Any tips on getting a good, permanent seal on the sending unit?

Hi there,

The way I thought it worked was, original used to be the cork one (the same model is still being used for the oilsender). But the cork has now been replaced by the rubber one. So I just used the rubber one. Should seal pretty good. Good luck and happy easter.

When I purchased a replacement sender, my original used a rubber gasket but the new one came with a cork gasket. I found that the cork was too thick to allow the nuts to thread on to the studs. I just re-used the rubber gasket and have had no problems.

The only differences I noticed (except for the material) is that rubber gasket has a notch on the inner edge and the cork has the notch on the outer edge. Also, the rubber gasket is 3/32" thick and the cork is 3/16".

I guess I'll just pull the thing out and try to use the rubber. I'll have the cork on standby.

Thanks for the info.
