78 SC Service Manual
Can anyone tell me which is the best available service manual for a 1978 911 SC ???
-Thanks |
Mike,
Although not strictly speaking a service manual our host's 101 Projects for your 911 is very good. If you want more detail then the Bentley 911 SC one is excellent. I do not rate the Haynes manual very much, though some may disagree. Ian |
i have all three and rate them as follows
1. bentley- must have very in depth 2. 101 projects- very good in conjunction with the bentley, but not stand alone 3. trail and error 4. getting your sister to help 5. haynes but more valuable than any of the above? the search function at the lower left of the main 911 BBS page. real world, real guys, and real good. |
Ian,
I already own the "101 Projects" book. You are right, it is very helpful. However, I am looking for more detailed wiring schematics. So I think I will try the Bentley manual. Thanks alot for your help!!! -Mike |
Mike,
I forgot to mention that I had all three, the Bentley is very good if a little pricey here in UK. I fully agree with k911sc's assessment and ranking, I think even my sister would be of more use than the Haynes!! |
Thanks for all your help, guys...
I really appreciate it. I just finished stripping my SC for paint, so I'm sure the Bentley manual will help with any reassembly issues. -Mike Daniell |
MikeD,
I think the Hayne's book, though not perfect or all inclusive, still has a spot in your library - it is under $20 and can be used as second reference. The Bentley repair manual is not without shortcomings itself but is well worth the investment. Attached is a current auction with the same person I bought purchased my manual from for your review. |
I would use the Haynes manual as a soft piece of material to jack up the car with.
|
For so long Haynes was the only manual really available. Times have changed and Bentley is one every Porsche DIY'er needs in the library. I still have a few different variations of Haynes that I use. They did update them a few times though.
