930 Transmission

OK, the original 76' 930 tranny gear ratio is tall. What can I do to lower the ratio so it drives better in the city and gets better accelleration. I want better accelleration and shifting in the city not top end speed. Also can anyone recommend a good place to have the tranny rebuilt? Thanks

I believe this guy can rebuild your tranny. And he is right down the coast from you.

Put in 8:39 ring and pinion, Andial has them on their web site.

+1

Thats the route I am taking since I like the ratios between the gearset in the 930, I just wished that each was a little shorter.

The andial R&P will shorten your gearing by about 20% and is a lot cheaper than a G50 conversion or changing the gearset in the 930 tranny.

I'm planning this change also. From what I can tell the ratios of the 930 with the 8:39 R&P is close to the first 4 gears in the '89 930 5 speed tranny.

I calculated that the R&P change would limit the top speed of my car to somewhere in the mid 160s which is more than fast enough for me.
