OK, I'm pulling my hair out...How do the driveshafts go back together
So, I am "finally" putting the motor back in the car (76'). As I am getting ready to bolt the axle's back to the tranny I get a couple of bearings fall out of the shaft. There seems to be 6 of them in the (I'm assuming the CV part of it) shaft. It seems to have the outer housing, the shaft an inner housing and the bearings. I am having no luck reassembling this so that I can bolt them to the car. Are there any trick's to this?
Thanks Oscar |

I think that the part I am talking about is the CV joint. Can this be reassembled on the car, or am I going to have to assemble it off the car?

Off the car, with care. You need to line the knuckle off-set to the round reliefs in the flange. If you look at the knuckle (the inner part attached to the shaft) it has even/odd shaped reliefs. The same for the flange (outer piece). It goes odd-to-even with all balls held in place with appropriate grease and some leverage.

It's a lot like a Rubic's cube. Have fun. When it's back together right it will pivot freely. It's possible to get it wrong. It will be obvious if its wrong.

I think there was another thread on this subject, with pictures. Maybe try a search. The way the balls and cages go together is counterintuitive!
