Alternator Brushes- what is the minimum length?

Hello,

my alternator light is (lightly) shining when the engine is running 2500+ revs in my 1975 911s.
It is not the voltage regulator (already replaced it).
According to the 101 projects the alternator itself might be the problem. I opened it and I could change the brushes, if this should be the root cause.
Is my assumption correct? What is the minimum length of the brushes?

Regards,

wullie

Brushes have to long enough to make contact with the slip ring under a slight "spring push" basis....

If you have the brushes out, replace them! They are not that expensive and the most difficult part is getting to them.
