oil cooler fan stuck ON - thermostat replacment Q
My oil cooler fan has been coming on for no reason. It now seems to be stuck ON. I've assumed the thermostat is shot and bought a replacement a while back.
Looking at the bentleys, it looks like the thermostat is on the front side of the cooler so the oil cooler has to come out to replace the thermostat. ?? Correct? It looks like a PITA. Anyone done this have any shortcuts tricks?

That is my understanding also...Pulling the Cooler seems to be the only access to the thermostat.
Have you checked your relay?

Great. I was hoping for a quick fix.
Wil, I did order the thermo from pelican that opens at a lower temp. Though from the sounds of my fan, I'm not sure I want it running all that much. ![]()

Just for the sake of conversation:
The fans used on the cooler are pretty robust and I've never heard of one failng. I would suspect that besides checking out why the intermittent on/off situation, the noise is probably a loose mount. As you know those fans spin at high RPM's. Here is my "sticking out my neck" prediction: With the severe vibration you described, I susupect that the fan mount(s) have loosened causing the vibration and the thermostat probe is somewhat dis-lodged causing the intermittent on/off situation.....
