Baseline Achieved

Hi all, I wanted to take a moment and thank you and our host for creating such a strong community on the web. I have just recently returned to these boards after many years and have been delighted by the depth and quality of information.

I am on my third Porsche now. The first was a 914 that I actually gave away on these boards many years ago. The car was far beyond my capabilities to repair, and I found someone who was capable of doing it right here on Pelican. The second was a 951 that I loved dearly and learned to fix. Even did preventive maintenance like replacing the rod bearings
:)

The 951 was hit from behind and totalled. Could be a testatment to the liability of 4 piston calipers when a Mustang is trying to follow you; or possibly just another inattentive driver.

Anyway I replaced the 951 with a 1980 911 SC. I will say that while I feel 120 horses short and miss the magic of the 951... the 911 has a dynamic that is lovable and all its own. I certainly am enjoying the new car and am looking forward to making it my own.

The 911 is Mocha brown, with rough paint, a nice interior, and an engine that was rebuilt 60K miles ago by John Walker. The first gear synchro is ineffective, but hey I was thinking ring and pinion swap anyway ;)

To baseline the car over the last month and a half I have:
1. Installed the Wevo shifter and shift coupler
2. Put Swepco 201 in the tranny
3. Elephant racing Polly bronze bushings, co-linear arm mounts and mono balls front and rear
4. Sanders 22mm and 28mm hollow torsion bars
5. Ball joints, wedge bolts, rack spacers
6. Wheel bearings
7. Rotors and pads at all four corners with ATE super blue
8. Elephant racing finned oil lines
9. Wevo semi solid engine mounts
10. Replaced heater blower
11. Dumped the entire AC
12. Deleted the spare and the Jack
13. Threw out the subwoofer and amp
14. Reversed the wipers
15. Installed SSI's with a borrowed muffler (Waiting on the Monty

:D )

Anyway if you read the list, it becomes apparent that I have been reading the boards. Thanks for all of the help and quick responses when I have had questions. I look forward meeting more of you at future events, maybe at the XXX show and shine.

PS- I would love a tech session at Eurotech body works. I have read RDANES posts and would like to visit the shop thats doing the work and see some of their other projects too.

PSS- you guys aren't helping me out with posts like the gauge porn one the other day. But then after three Porsches I know the saying is true... "It is only money and your Porsche is going to get it anyway..."

Hi Matt and welcome to the 911 fold! I've had my car about 9 years and still have to do some of the things you've all taken care of, so it looks like you're a 'dive right in' kind of guy, which is just what we like here!

Glad you like the community and welcome !
