Fuel Tank Question

Hi...I just installed a later model (Early 80's CIS) gas tank in my 72T. The install went ok, but the fitting on the underside don't match what was there in the first place. On my original tank, there was a threaded hole at the bottom of the tank for the banjo fitting and bolt. On the new tank, there is a threaded male hanging out of the tank. Is there some adapter for this, or does this threaded male thread INTO the tank? I started trying to remove it, but the soft brass started stripping. I wasn't sure if it was brazed on in there or not. Anyone know?

Thanks.

mto

Michael,

STOP, don’t bugger up the tank. You need to make adaptor fittings. I’m sure Dave at DART and others can supply suitable donor components to make the adaptors. This might be a good opportunity to move your fuel pump to the front as a ‘69E&S or ‘70T, E&S.

Best,
Grady

Ok...thanks Grady. I'm off to McGuckin's to try to make something work.

Ok...no McG, Napa, Home Depot, Lowe's...etc. Everybody just carries SAE. Does anyone know the actual size of the fitting on the gas tank?? It looks like it's in the 14mm range.

Thanks,

mto

The used parts from the SC that you might get from a parts recycler won't work, as they are all designed for the CIS fuel pump which is right behind the tank. I ended up having to buy the right parts from a diesel injection shop, and even then had to do some slicing and dicing to get it all to work.

I don't recall the sizes exactly, but I want to say the fuel lines are 8mm and 9mm - check the archives? Sorry I can't help more.

A Diesel injection shop, huh? I'm not even sure where to LOOK for such a thing! Truckstop maybe?
