I don't know, some replicas are pretty nice. THere are some porsche replicas that are great, like the Beck 550, and the 904 that you can get in the UK that costs a bundle, and there's even a 917 replica that's pretty nice.

In the UK they have replica/re-engineered E-type Jags that are better than the originals as well as Austin Healey 3000's, GT40's, AC Cobras, etc....

99.9% of all Cobras must be kitcars... No need to buy a real one (if you could), everone will think its a kitcar anyway.
I could see why you buy a 917, 904 or even a GT40 replica. They are icons and only existed in a very small number.
Somthing like a 904 is easy to get right, the original already had an ill fitting fiberglass body
A premium car like Carrera GT, Ferrrari or Lambo will not like nice without a lot of money.

And then there are world champion car manufacturer (LOTUS) who cars were known as kit car for tax reason. The build on there early cars leave a lot to be desire if one was expecting a "real" car for the street instead of a race car converted for the street.

LOTUS Type 52 replica of a LOTUS Type 47.

IMHO, the CGT is a butt fugly car which appears, by all accounts, to have transcendent performance. So what is the point here? You can ruin your Boxster in order to have all the bad looks of the CGT without any of the performance? Am I missing somethig here?

Ohhh.... Look at that 10" running board on the side.... Looks like the kit car picked up a little something extra along the way....

Doesn't the word, "replica" signify an exact match for the original?

If it was a replica, it would look like the real thing - like a Cobra kit car. This one doesn't. But they probably did it for legal considerations.

I'm surprised they were able to do such a bad job at it. Even if they made the look slightly different for legal considerations, it would sort of degeat the purpose of making it look like CGT in the first place.
