Appbiz RSA door panel: question on fit
I've gotten those in leather and they are superb. I struggled a bit with the instructions but it all made sense in the end. My question is: Once installed, how are your gaps between the panel and the door frame ?
I find that on mine, with only 3 plastic clips per door and 3 screws at the bottom, the panel kinda has a big gap with the door between the screws... Anyone else ? |

Yup, the foam covered fiberboard foam they use is not rigid enough. You might try running a piece of thin but rigid sheet metal or flat bar bonded flat to the panel on the back side to keep in straight. I wasn't impressed with them myself...but Bob at AppBiz is a good guy so I'd deal with them again.

Is this on an early car maybe? The Appbiz panels for late 911s have a different set of holes than the ones for early cars. I assume the RSA panels are for late cars (as compared to the RS style panels for the early cars).
I had this problem fitting the late style leather panels to my '71 a couple of years ago. When I talked with Bob at Appbiz, he said that the mounting points were different. I ended up adding several plastic clips to each panel to get a nice tight fit. It's pretty easy--punch some holes in the panel backer and twist them in. |

On another note some cleverly placed sticky backed velcro may set all right with the world...

I was thinking more screws ;-) In fact that is what I am going to do ! Do factory RS panels havea much better fit, then ?
And yes, it's a panel FOR an early car, RS or RSA I don't remember but it said 69-73 on the wrapper... Screws, I think. It's only an issue under and at the back of the the door. Top is covered by the trim and front is invisible anyway... 4 extra screws would seem to fix it, gotta find the same pretty washers though ! Last edited by Deschodt; 04-01-2005 at 07:25 AM.. |

I have used the stuff for a couple of cars, mine included. It is okay. Heard some "stories" about some other suppliers so I will probably continue to use it....

I think factory anything has the best fit. It's not often that someone out engineers the factory with the same level of quality...

Update: The owner of appbiz has offered to send me a few trim washers for free so I can add as many screws as I want.. Very nice of him ! Goes to show you he is worthy of his good reputation !
And to re-iterate: I love the product, I was just trying to get a perfect fit... |
