WTF - GT What?

A wish I had a camera moment.

Went for a meeting this afternoon, pulled into lot on private estate and the first thing a saw was the back end of a Mercedes CLK GTR AMG - one of only 25 ever made. Get out of car to look closer then see an Ferrari F50 parked in front of it. Then a Porsche Carrera GT in front of that, BUT, this GT had a hard top and the craziest body I have ever seen, like a full GT series car - roof intakes, huge rear flares etc; what was it?. Hidden in a trailer was a Lamborghini Gallardo and a 1956 Ferrari.

Apparently the Merc alone is valued at $1.8m, all cars are owned by one lucky chap and represent just a small part of his collection.

But is he happy?!

It was probably the GT1 street car.

That would be a nice collection. I must admit that I see a pretty good selection of high end cars like Lambos, Ferraris, Astons, etc. driving around Sarasota. Usually either driven by 70 year olds or their grandchildren. Had a girl, maybe 20 years old, pull up beside me at a light driving a SL65 AMG. I don't think she has been alive long enough to make that kind of dough. Must be a rough life.

Nigel,

If this is the fellow from Casey Key (and it must be, since you mention the CLK GTR), he DOES have quite a collection. I had the chance to tour his garages when I purchased a car from him a couple of years ago. You know you are in good shape when you can afford to buy your neighbor's property in order to store your cars there.

Apparently the guy had loaned them so they could be displayed at a car show in Tampa this coming weekend.

Cool. He is a pharmaceutical executive and I believe also a real-estate developer. Never got to meet him as he has a "staff" that handles the cars for him (including in-house mechanic, of course).

That's the one, apparently he was a chemist and patented a heart med. That GTR looked pretty good for the heart.

His Gullwing and Bughatti EB110 are gorgeous as well.

Yep.

ignatius 04-01-2005 03:05 AM

Yes, yes he was happy :)

Steve comes up trumps - that's the one. Makes the regular GT look almost pedestrian, any idea of cost?

Wil Ferch 04-01-2005 07:31 AM

Yes....$ 1 mil ...when they became available..about 2x the cost of the CGT of today....

Nigel, its times like these that you should carry a camera in your glove box, come on man think of the rest of us! :D

nigel911 04-01-2005 08:14 AM

You're talking to a guy who doesn't even own a mobile phone. I do carry a disposable camera in the glove box though, unfortunately my car is in the shop with a blown engine - I was in a hire car.
