Chips and (HP) dips: When the DME retards the timing

I was reading the 'heat soak' thread, and it occurred to me that it would be useful to know when/if the DME is retarding the timing on 3.6 liter motors. Obviously, the knock sensors trigger the DME, and it revises its maps based on their input. But would it be possible to pull an electronic signal from the DME when this happens? Seeing a light on the dash when this is happening would in some ways be more useful than seeing A/F ratio numbers.

Is it possible?

Yes, especially if the dignostic port is hooked up, all of that info is available thru a KTS300 Hammer 9288 Diagnostic Tester

JDS

I also have heard that Baum Tools has on that can be read w/ a palm pilot,

I have a Palm based OBDII scanner that can display any of the sensors readings in real time. Among the readouts is ignition timing advnce/retard. It can also data log and then download to a PC, or hook up directly to a laptop. The one I use is a very inexpensive one but it works. Here is the one I bought. Do a google search and I'm sure you will find plenty.
