I'm curious: how many 911's in Australia?
Yes, I was asking myself that question just before falling asleep yesterday evening... how many of these wonderful cars would there be in Ozzy??? And New Zealand??
Does any one over they know?

There are heaps (at least for our population!), stretching back many years. Hamiltons (the original dealer in Melbourne) was apparently one of the first dealers outside of Germany (or so they say).
Melbourne is still Porsche central is Aust. I'm sure one of the other guys will have an idea of how many. They seem to be pretty thin on the ground in NZ on other hand - I've only ever seen a handful over there, although I suspect they're all hiding around Auckland. But not enough! Ash

Hi,
I have a copy of Porsche Australia's annual sales between 1969 and 1998 if anyone is interested in a copy. Of course it doesn't account for the many private imports. Ron 1978SC |

Sounds like ron78sc is right on the money.
for some background and ron may confirm this, i think there were 12 1976 911 sold in aust. i suspect that sales have increased over the last decade with reductions in sales tax and luxury vehicle tax. Why do you want to know? andrew

We're lucky over here in that our climate is pretty good - at least it never gets cold enough to snow in our major cities (worth mentioning) so we never salted our roads

Cool, that’s good to know. I've got one of the 35 '76 Aus delivered Carrera coupes, didn't realize there were so few.
I heard there where about 20 Aus delivered 2.7 Carreras in total (again dosn't include private imports).

Unfortunately mines a 77 model which makes it one of.....8 targas. But more importantly it's purchaser was the only person in 76 or 77 who wanted their carrera targa in porn star yellow (as I think someone here has called it). So now that it's officially a rare car, all offers of 100k or more will be considered

I know heaps of people with Porsches here in NZ.......but then again I would owning one myself......dur!
In the P.CLub NZ, there are appx 600 active members. Who knows but perhaps there are at least twice that who own Porsches but are not members. And of course many members I know own at least one Porsche. NZ has the most Ferrari's per capita in the world and I believe it is a similar thing with Porsches. One sad point; we tend to get the rare cars (eg 2.7 RS, 356 Carerra's) leaving out shores due to the high prices that are being paid by O/S buyers......our $ is worth appx 70% the US$. There are heaps of Asian imported 2nd hand 964's on the market here. Most are selling for less than my 1987 3.2 would command. Is this the same in the US (& OZ)? Early 996's are starting to trade somewhat less than a 993....I think this is a world wide trend though... One disappointment; there are no Carrea GT's here. But on the flip side there are 2 Enzos.....
