I have some trouble with my sound system, help please!
 

Ok I just got rid of the stupid mono setup that came with the car. Meaning that I completely by passed the center consol fader control. So now all four speakers are running individualy off the head unit. The problem is that the power to the head unit has a fuse in integrated in the line. This happens to be a very small and wimpy looking fuse. Now everytime I want to crank the sound up, that little fuse blows out. Its very annoying and those fuses are hard to come by. Is there a way I can put in a heftyier fuse or eliminate it all together?

Beau, You cannot eliminate it. Check what rating the fuse is. Then check the required fuse for the stereo. Maybe someone changed it to a smaller one. It should be 5 amps~.

The fuses are 2.5 amps and the head unit says 14.4 V operating voltage. Ok I dont know how to convert volts to amps, but I get the feeling that a 2.5 amp fuse is too small. Any more suggestions?

PS also the manualy for the head unit lists "current consumption 10A" Does this mean 10 amps?

replace the fuse with a 10 amp, the radio will draw 5-7 amps when cranked.
the fuse is to protect the device/car in the event of a problem which it will still do.

car was super clean with about 25k on it......she was a garage queen :D

Ok so replacing the 2.5 with a 10amp fuse sounds like the ticket. One last thing, the fuse is one of those barrel fuses made of glass. Its housing is integrated in the power wire to the head unit. Where can I find this housing for a 10 amp fuse, any electric store??

also if this is a separate fuse which is attatched to the wire that came with the new radio then it could be eliminated, as long as there is a fuse in the stock fuse box of the car for that wire, i would double check that one too as it should also be a 10amp.
