not so nice PO headlight wiring...

my passenger headlight flickers on occasion. i took it out this afternoon and encountered this...

notice the white plug. it has VW/ Audi markings. the wires appear to be slightly singed where they enter the plug and also on the car side of the factory connectors. is this normal?

i took the driver's side light out and it too had the same crap wiring. why would the PO do this? H4s or aftermarket headlights?
here is a pic of one of my lights, i believe they're H5s...

to repair, i recrimped all connectors (one blue connector fell off in my hand) and electrical taped each one. the lights no longer flicker. i plan on upgrading to H4s. will the adaptor fit the factory end of my wiring?

this is troubling since everything else i've toyed with on the car has been factory original, down to the shocks, stereo, exhaust, etc...

The aiming "teets" are the give-away these are H5's. H$'s won't have these and will actually say "H4" on ther glass...

H4's, use, I believe, different plugs and different pin-outs.

The "singing" is normal for all Porsche wires I've seen that emerge through grommets and through the body....seems to be a mix of start of corrosion and the waxy cosmoline used as a rust preventative. Gives a patina of "rust" around the rubber grommets....
