how to seal a fuel tank?
I am building my own fuel tank. What is the preferred way to have it sealed?

Don't laugh, but you can buy stuff from JC Whitney. Pour it into the tank and slosh it all around. I built a tank once and used that stuff, worked really well, but I don't recall the name of it.
BTW, don't leak check the tank with water (ask me how I know that) Good luck Pat

cnielson, I recently had an oil leak question and ran across a product called "Pro Seal." In reading the review, I think it is exactly what you are looking for. Here is a link: Pro Seal
Good luck, David

Hi guys I had one done.....
Take it to a radiator shop... have it boiled out. Then have them braze the holes, and the have them seal the inside of the tank....... you dont want a fire anywhere near youre Porsche. I had this done on my 66-912.. cost me about $99. and I had it back the 2 days later. And if i ever have the same prob. I take it back. Good Luck..... Diesel8@cox.net

I an building one as well and have ordered the tank sealer POR 15 sells but not yet used it. I plan to slightly pressurize the tank first and use soapy water to locate any pinholes (certain to exist), weld these up, then use the sealer just to be sure. As the inside of my tank is spotless I don't anticipate the adhesion problems sometimes encountered when treating an old rusty tank.

Chris, AAA Radiator in Redmond is sealing my 100L tank - might want to talk with them.

I've used the por15 product that tct referred to.
Had excellant results! I had a leaking tank in a restoration completed 5 years ago. After the por15, has never leaked a drop. Good luck. |

Thanks! I will call AAA radiator. I have used them in the past for oil tanks and had very good results. But...I am sold on POR products so I will also look into that.
