Can't Remove Injector Rail (3.2) - Help
I wonder if I am missing something here.
I am trying to remove the fuel injector rail for cyl #1-3 (to replace fuel injector #1, to hopefully solve my misfiring/smog problem, see "gross polluter" thread). So I have removed the bolts securing the rail to intake runners #1 & 3, disconnected the fuel line fittings at each end of the rail (and the forward one was a pain), disconnected the plugs to the injectors, and removed the miscellaneous wire ties. Now the rail wiggles easily side-to-side, and appears to be held to the engine only by the three injectors. My Bentley at this point says to "carefully lift off rail with injectors" or something like that. Well, I'm applying significant upwards force on the rail, like maybe 50% of arm strength, and there is no sign of the injectors coming out of the intake, or of other movement. I can't apply any more force and still be "careful" - I'd have to really haul on it or start looking for prying points . . . Is this the way it is? Any quick thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am in the garage as we speak . . . |
Errr, never mind, thanks. I finally resorted to removing the U-clips that secure the rail to the injectors, and removing the rail only. Then I lost patience and used a wrench and screwdriver handle to lever the #1 injector out of the intake. It popped out and landed on the valve cover. The orange plastic cap on the end was cracked. I suspect I did that damage, but have no evidence.
Anyway, I shoved the new injector in the hole without lubrication - getting a bit hurried here - and am bolting everything back together. |
