Accelerator cable broke....how to R&R
My SC broke an accelerator cable this evening....I guess...it feels like it broke up at the pedal. My Bentley manual is strangely mute about how it attaches in the pedal assembly. The cable has some slack if I pull on it from inside the engine bay.
Bentley does have a section on the clutch cable but I don't see any diagrams on the accelerator....anyone got a schematic or a BTDT story? Does it have a threaded end that may have stripped out? |
There is no cable. Its a rod that runs through the tunnel. You will have to disassemble the tunnel to free the rod. The rod slides on 4-5 plastic guides. The guides are held to the tunnel wall by a folded metal tab, similar to the wiring harness. AFIK, the drivetrain must come out to pull the rod out of the tunnel.
check to see that the bell crank on the pedal cluster did not break. That is a known weakness. |
Ah...OK....I've been working on my 356 and 914s too long....forgot that there was no cable to the pedal....
I'll get it up on stands tomorrow when it's light out. |
OK....figured it out....on my 3.6 conversion I did a splice that converted from the rod to a cable at the bell crank....and then it pulls on the throttle body arm....it broke at the splice.
Just to dark to see when it happened and I had too many beers at the 914 barbeque and picnic this afternoon....%^B Thanks for showing me the light.... |
