Tightened CV bolts all the way...now the hub won't budge! Help!

Hi all,
I'm currently changing from metal to aluminum traliing arms and I've swapped over the stub axles to match up with my 4 bolt cv joints. However, when I'm connecting the cv shafts to the flange and start to tighten them up, when they're about 90% tight I tried turning the hub but it seems like it's locked in there! If I loosen the cv bolts, the hub turns. Any ideas/suggestoins? Thanks!

Hi:

Do you have the Schnorr washers under each bolt and did you retain the double plates for each pair of CV bolts?

Jeff: I assume that we are talking about the wheel side. The bolts are coming out too far and hitting the T-arm body. Back them off, use the proper Schnorr washer on one bolt, tighten that bolt, the CV joint is locked now (Does not turn) Back off the one bolt one turn. If the CV joint turns now, you have to gring off one thread length on all Allen bolts.
Did you have the halfmoon shaped plate and the lock washer under the original set-up? I don't use the little plate, but, it is important that you use the Schnorr washer, not the normal split lock washer. (Schnorr type has multiple locking tabs) If you have 4 bolts, they should be M10 and need to be torqued to 60 ft-lb according to Bentley 420-21. Aloha.

Thanks Steve, Gunter,

Mine did not come with Schnorr washers, but the halfmoon shaped plate is still there...will the Schnorr washers make that much of a difference?

I'll probably end up just grinding a thread or two... Or should I just add washers?

The Schnorr Washers are more important than the little plates! It's the washers that do the locking! They are not very thick, so, you may still have to grind off one thread.
