PPI - view from the other side!

Can there be a more humbling experience than sitting through a pre-purchase inspection of your car with a potential buyer, especially a car you've neglected the past 6 months? Sitting there listening as a professional runs down every single flaw? I feel like I've been caught on tape kicking a puppy...

Lesson = don't neglect. It is like a marriage, the more neglect you do, the more it costs you in the divorce!

Don't feel bad. I just went through this trying to sell a house. The home inspector wrote up a myriad of things (all the way down to a burned-out light bulb) that I had no idea of. Sheesh...

A friend is selling a car and had a guy give him a hard time about a few imperfection in the body. He simply said, 'buy a new one'. These are used cars guys.

Good luck with the sale!

That's what was so depressing! The recent neglect, I could accept - but they found all sorts of stuff that had me going "Oh, that's not supposed to do that?" I thought I was a passable home mechanic until today :( On the upside, the car still turned out to be pretty good. Solid, running okay though not optimum. The buyer restored a rusted-out 356 and came away psyched about having an "easier" car for this one.

My next Porsche, I'm gonna get me one of them PPI thingies, too!

Did the buyer buy your Targa? Was he willing to pay your asking price or was he a Persian Rug shopper?

Who did the PPI?

Sorry to hear that you are getting rid of your collection.

True. except that I really don't care if the antenna works or not(up/down). I don't care if the AC works because its extra weight. There are bunch of things that I don't care about except the engine/tranny and other mechanicals.

Sure a prospective buyer might want these issues pointed out but no biggie.

For what you were asking for that Targa... the PPI should have been to see that it had an engine, trans and a couple of wheels (and that it currently was not on fire).

Don't sweat it... :)

The PPI was done by a shop called E&J - they work on the buyer's 356B. I've never heard of them, but they're only a few blocks away near Irving Park and Western. The service manager was a nice guy, and of the opinion that the SC/Carrera are the pinnacle of Porsche engineering. I had to leave before the PPI was done, but unless they discover the floorpan is made of papier mache, the car's sold - we agreed to meet again at 5pm. There was no haggling, and the seller is definitely of the opinion that at my price, you can't go wrong.
