This morning my new-to-me 88 started making a high pitched rattling sound. The sound is like a tiny washer vibrating on top of a piece of sheet metal. Its very tinny sounding. I have never heard failed tensioners but my first reaction was not of chains and metal garbage cans. The sound is NOT present at idle. It starts as soon as the engine begins to rev and continues all through the rpm band but is loudest around 2500 rpm.
If I shift into neutral and let off the gas, the sound stops as the rpms dip back to idle. Any ideas? Thanks, Mat P

Look at the shield below the catalytic converter.

The cat shield is secure.
Since there is no sound when the car is idling, I was unable to pinpoint the exact location. I will get a buddy to help me at lunch to see if I can trace it.
