what's this (vacuum?) hose for
As I went to replace my air filter (86 911) I noticed a hose just hanging there behind the filter box almost unseen. It looks like a vacuum hose that connects to the backside of the filter housing box, and it goes through the wall of the side quarter panel to where I don't know.
Can anyone tell me what this does where it goes and if I had done any harm with it not being connected. thanks

It sounds like the hose that runs from the charcoal canister to the air box. Fumes from the fuel tank run through the canister (which is in the pass. side rear wheel well) and then into the air box. Emissions stuff.
I believe the hose that goes to the airbox enters on the clean side of the filter, so I would connect the hose or plug the hole in the air box. You don't want to be sucking in unfiltered air through the hole into the intake.
