Ok, this getting bad (my fuel consumption)

Ok so I posted a while ago about my really bad fuel consumption, I was only gettin 160 miles on a tank. Now on this latest tank my light came on at 117 miles!! Ack!! I've been fuming about this for a couple days and it just occured to me that when I filled up last I added a can of fuel system cleaner. Would this cause the fasted than "normal " consumption for this tank?

I'm going to have to take it to the wrench to get the real problem sorted out though. Could a bad o2 sensor be to blame? What would be the symptom of such a thing.

The car has been like this since I got about a year ago. I just figured it was really bad on gas>

Nik

Update... I just read that emmisions failures can result from a bad 02 sensor as well. Back when I got the car it had been in storage (2 years), I changed the fluids and ran it a while then took it for emmision testing. It flunked BADLY. I took it to a guy my friend recommended. I didn't get a good feeling from this guy, he mostly had VWs lying around, no P-cars. I watched as he tweeked some screws in the engine and sent me off for emmisions again. I passed, came back to him and he adjusted things again for me to drive. If my o2 sensor was bad maybe he over compensated on some settings causing my awful fuel consumption??

Any help appreciated!

Nik.

Nik,

I would speculate the same as you. If the 02 sensor is bad or disconnected, then the system goes rich. If you have an air leak, then someone may have richened your mix to compensate. If your WUR is bad, ditto.

There was a post a while back where a guys speedo was the problem. His fuel economy went down and his way to work got progressively shorter at the same time.... Or maybe a leak somewhere in the fuel system
