Avanti 904 Factory Visit

After dreaming of owning a 904 and not having enough funds to pay the taxes on a real one, I took the plunge and bought an Avanti-Beck 904 replica (body and frame only) on EBay a few months ago. After selling my precious sport seats for funds, I scheduled an appointment with Dan Schwartz at Avanti for a tour and parts purchasing trip. He and Joel (another Avanti employee) couldn't have been nicer or more patient. Here are a few pictures and I'll try to post more when I get some work done on the car. Tom

Can you stick the soul of a 911 beneath that body or will it be something else?

Very cool. Please keep us posted.

BTW, Avanti isn't related to this, is it?

Ah yes, the Avanti, the car that looks like its driving in reverse. Built in SouthBend, IN not too far from where I was born. Still see a few roaming around the area in the summer, strange cars.

904.... Can't wait to see how this works out, love that car.

Yes, that is the same company that makes the Avanti car, but now located in Villa Rica, Georgia. I plan to use a 73 911 motor with mfi (as yet to be rebuilt) along with a 915 gearbox. The suspension uses the 911 spindle from the front and some of the rear hub components in a multilink set up. This project ought to thouroughly impoverish me. Thanks for your support. Tom

Tom, those seats are going to a good home, you can count on it.

Here's a cool link I just found: http://www.***********.com/Life/beckvisitsaa.html

is there a website on specs and purchasing a 904?

mmm. I think I want a 904 more than any other "vintage/antique" Porsche

Tom is currently dismantling a 75S with terminal oxidation.
Has a 68 on the rotisserie resolving ITS rust issues.
And now has this 904 in the works.
Tom just hates challenges!
