Does your coil have a boot?

I recently installed some new Clewett wires. I ran the engine in the dark and noticed a lot of arcing from the center coil lead to the two primary leads. When I checked Pelican I noticed that there is a coil boot that my car does not (but will) have.

Does anyone have any useful comments or observations concerning this boot?

I just replaced mine with Magnecores. The coil boot is just a cover for the coil.

If you are arcing as described, my opinion is you have another problem besides a missing boot. A new boot may just hide the problem,

Those with more expertise may help you further.

something ain't kosher.

cracked coil, oil/grease up there, weak coil wire boot, etc

Put a boot on there by all means. I put on the MSD system. I didn't put on the boot I ordered because the blaster coil was a little too big for the hole and I didn't have my Dremel.

Ran it for a couple of weeks and then got around to replacing and regapping the plugs. I think I make have not pushed the coil to cap wire into the coil all the way, but it blew a hole in the side of the coil and eventually arced down to the terminals. Ruined the coil to cap wire as well.

I ordered new wires and a new coil the next day. Dremeled out the boot to accomodate the coil. :o Expensive lesson to learn.
