Techron Time?
It is said in this post: toluene as an additive/ cleaner (tech stuff) that Chevron now adds Techron to their fuels? We have no Chevron filling stations in our area so I have to add the stuff to the fuel. Is it best to still change the oil after the treatment? if so then should you change your oil if you use Chevron fuels too?

We had a real good thread awhile ago about other and some better gas treatments. The bottom line is that Techron is ok and expensive due to marketing. If you "search" the thread post it here, ok. I was in New Mex bs w/ the owner of a Chevron Sta and I started yacking about the Techron. He said the Chevron tech was just in to test his gas tanks for it being correct Chevron being used. The tech had a meter that detected the Techron in the gas. The owner said the tech's meter hardly moved due to the itty bit of techron that's used in the gas. I liked the idea that Chevron checks up on their stations. otherwise go figure

There is a thread here somewhere that said that the techron in the gas is a different compound than the concentrated stuff in the bottle. I run chevron 91 with techron all the time and a couple wrenches suggest it too so I don't think it affects your oil much.
However, I think there is wisdom in changing your oil after running the concentrated bottled techron through since they say it dilutes your oil. I think it's true because after I recently changed my diluted oil I got an increase in miles per quart of oil.

The jury is still out regarding changing the oil after using a fuel additive. There are a lot of oil analysis reports on this site: http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php Check the “Used Oil Analysis – Gas Engines” forum. I was curious about this too, so I did a search on Techron on the above forum. Some people report increased lead levels after using Techron, others don’t. It’s hard to conclude that the increased lead levels in some of those UOA reports was caused by Techron. It’s quite possible that there was another cause. I don’t see any hard evidence one way or the other. Fuel dilution of the oil is one item these analysis’s report on. You can have a high level of fuel dilution in your oil regardless of additive usage. I also don’t see any hard evidence that there is any downside at all, other than to your wallet, to using fuel system cleaners. The upside, on some cars, is huge. My P-Car and my old Toyota truck (which I no longer own) show a huge improvement after using them. My wife’s car, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to need them. I don’t feel anything different in her car after using them.
It’s pretty clear, in my mind, that there is not enough Techron in Chevron gas to make much of a difference. Perhaps it’s a bit better than no-name gas. I was using Chevron gas exclusively for several years, yet my cars benefit significantly from fuel system cleaners. I’ve since switched to the new Shell V-Power. They claim to have 5 times the minimum required cleaning agents. I don’t know if this is true, nor do I know how many times the minimum (1? 2? 5?) required cleaning agents Chevron has. I do know that my car feels significantly better with Shell V-Power. It’s all about feel, and that’s enough for me to use V-Power. I also believe that Techron has an undeserved reputation as being the best. I think that’s due to their marketing scheme, and they are certainly not going to change your perception about that. I’ve had better results with some of the cheaper ones. Gumout Regane is excellent, as is Redline SI-1. They just raised the price of Redline, so it’s not as much of a bargain as it was before. I’ve heard good things about Berryman B-12 Chemtool, added to your tank like the others, and it’s about $3 or $4 while Techron can be $10 to $15 for the big bottle. I’ve never tried B-12 myself. I just got a two for one deal on Gumout Regane so I’m set for a while. Lucas UCL and Fuel Power are both meant to be used every tank, at a lower dosage. I’ve tried them and don’t get as much seat-of-the-pants feel from them as the stronger cleaners. Perhaps they are still doing their job though, keeping things clean rather than providing a quick clean-out. If you haven’t used one of these cleaners for some time, give it a shot. It’s quite likely your car will thank you for it.

As an anecdotal story, I was at a 2-day DE once and my car came down with a clogged fuel injector at the end of the first day. I went and bought a large bottle of Techron and poured it into a tank of about 6-8 gallons of gas and ran the bejeezus out of it. The injector problem went away after less than 20 miles.
Like was mentioned above, the amount of Techron in the pump gas is almost assuredly very small. I don't think I would even use much sleep running 2 or 3 bottles of Techron thru an engine between oil changes. But that's just me. Mike

I have had the same results with 'slow' injectors and clogged ones on various cars. The stuff is great.

One final note: Techtron is the only product that Porsche recommends for our cars. I have some confidence in their expertise.
