NEED HELP ---- O2 Sensor

I can't get the damn thing out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've already broken my O2 Sensor Socket in half at the base.

How the hell do you get this thing out?

UPDATE:

I got in out. See post below. How do I get the new one back in? I'm planning of doing some cleaning in there tonight to see if that helps.

I frequently use Kroil to loosen sticky hardware. Try a generous spraying of it where the sensor screws in the cat or testpipe. I would let it soak in over nite if it's really bad and then try to loosen it again.

PB Blaster, socket wrench and a big long Breaker Bar will work.

Those 'cutaway' O2 sensor sockets are intended ONLY for installation, not removal of rusted old ones ... they will spread every time on a stubborn sensor!!!

Cut off the wires, and use a heavy, impact-style, deep, 6-point socket on a big breaker bar. Heating the bung to cherry red before extraction wouldn't hurt, either!

A combo box end wrench with a breaker bar or another box end used in conjunction worked for me. I soaked in penetrating oil, and let stand overnight, then took a propane torch to the surrounding area of the cat. Mine left a few thds in the bung hole, so be ready with a thd pic, and a chaser to clean things up.

I got it out. Penetrant from Pep Boys.

Walk me through the thd pic and chaser. I can't get the new 02 sensor to thread in.

Still need help. How do I get it back it? It's not threading

Nine9six 04-11-2005 08:33 AM

Kev,
You only need a thread pic if you left threads from your o2 sensor in the threaded bung hole in the cat. Look carefully at the o2 sensor that you removed. If all the thds are intact, you need only to purchase a thd chaser or tap to clean up the hole, since you are having difficulty installing the new sensor. DO NOT CROSS THREAD the chaser, tap or sensor.
From memory, I believe size is 18mm x 1.5 pitch.. Maybe someone else can confirm, as I am at work.
Be sure to put a thin film of anti-seize compound on your new 02 sensor thds before installing. I would not use to much anti seize as you would not want it running down onto the sensor at temp.
Cheers,

Thx. Nine9six.

After looking at the 02 sensor that I removed and reading your reply again, two threads were left in the cat hole.

I was able to pick them out with small screw driver. New sensor went right in.
;)
