Question for those with ERP 935 spring plates
First question, what the heck am I doing wrong? The car is waaaayyyy too low, even with the new Eibach 9" springs I just installed on the TRG upside coilovers. Second question, the camber adjustment bolt is too short to go through both the aluminum trailing arm and the spring plate. What do you guys use? Thanks in advance!!

Jeff,
I can't comment on the spring/ride height issue, but the eccentric bolt length issue is caused by using the early steel trailing arm bolts in the later aluminum arms. I had this issue with my '74 with SC arms, the '74 eccentric is smaller in diameter and the lobe is shallower. I bet if you source some later 77+ bolts you'll be all set in that department. |
At the risk of asking the obvious; have you reached the end of the height adjustment on the threaded bodies?
|
How are you measuring the ride height? Are you using the factory method or just measuring the fenders? If you use the factory method of measuiring the torsion bar centerline, or however they do it, what numbers do you get? I have the feeling that the problem might be with the fenders.
|
Rufblackbird, I recall your previous thread from a couple days ago about this ride height issue.
Since the new springs are in place but seem to make no difference, I might ask if you have the upper spring seat installed? I borrowed this pic from a thread of shuies's to display what the spring seat (perch) looks like in the event yours are missing. These make up 3-4 inches of length of the assembly - critical. http://www.members.shaw.ca/kremer/rsr21110728284.jpg I have seen custom shocks with short shock bodies intended for a custom built rear subframe. Were yours used on, or intended for a street application? What spring rate did you install? Can you take one assembly out and post a picture of it? |
There are some guys who would sell their own mother for that much negative camber in the rear!

Jerry, the arms I have on the car is from a '76...pretty sure the bolts are from that car as well. I'll double check. Thanks. Chuck, they are threaded almost all the way to the top; I'll take one side off and snap a pic. I've taken the shocks off so many times the last couple of days that I've become pretty fast at it. ;) Neil, I had no problem with the stock torsion bars. Now that I've switched over to coilovers with erp spring plates I don't think the factory method applies. Jim, here's a pic of them when they were posted on the classifieds. I bought them from another member who had it on their car and it was fine. Springs were 8" 400lbs but I just installed 9" 350lb ones. I'll post more after breakfast. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1113162854.jpg thanks everyone! |
here's a pic of the coilover, fresh off the car. It's adjusted almost all the way up, but the more up it goes the harder the sleeve is to turn.

Hey Jeff,
Do those simply replace the rear shocks on a 911? Do you still have the torsion bars?Special spring plates? Sorry I can't help with the situation but I am thinking a set of these would be nice on my SC. Thanks for your time, |
Wayne,
the coilovers replace the shock and the torsion bars. I believe you can still use your stock spring plates but I decided to just do it all one time and buy the $$$$ ERP ones. They sure are nice...but can't believe how bumpy the ride is. Not that I mind it, but if I have a passenger the fillings in their teeth might fall out :D |
Cool. Thanks Jeff. I will look into them.
|
I bought the coils used from the classifieds and spring plates new from Jae at Mirage Intl. If I had to do it all over again I would've just ordered everything from him.
|
The link is what I was going to ask about. I went Elephant Products and couldn't find anything. CHecked Pelican too. Nothing.
I noticed they don't list a price for the pieces at Mirage. Should I dare ask? |
well, all I can tell you is that the spring plates go for about $800. The shocks on TRG's website isn't cheap, so I can imagine Jae's prices are around the same ballbark.
|
Yeah, alrighty then!
Those will have to wait. Other priorites right now.(Gutters, new patio, etc.) Thanks for your opinions and help, Jeff. Hope you get your prblem worked out so you can drive your car soon. |
thanks Wayne. Car has been out of commission for three weeks now and my withdrawls are getting really bad, as this was my daily driver. I can drive it now....but I've destroyed part of the rear bumper and scraped the exhaust tips when exiting my driveway.

Jeff, I overlooked that you said you have upsidedown assemblies.
Some time ago I measured the distance from the center of the shock bolt on a control arm to the underside of the shock tower where the rubber shock bushing seats, seem to recall it was about 19" for a somewhat lowered car. I also recall that a stock Bilstein shock measures 24" when fully extended. What do your assemblies measure when fully extended? I'm wondering if they are intended for a radically lowered car, or perhaps you need a spring more in the range of 12"+. Jim |
Jim,
I'm not sure....but if I'm not mistaken these are the 18" ones from TRG. Thanks |
