Dansk muffler coming, can I use OEM straps?

I have a Dansk 1 in/ 2 out coming for my 86, and I am wondering if I can use the OEM straps that are on the car. I looked online and the straps that Dansk produces are like $60, PER STRAP! I am not morally capable of dishing out that kind of dough for muffler straps. If the OEM ones won't work, what are the cheaper options?

Also, I am going to be cutting a hole in my valence for the passenger pipe. There is a heat shield on the inside. Can I chuck this or will it heat the valence too much? If I have to, I can cut this as well, but if I don't need the weight back there, I would prefer to get rid of it. Does anyone have pictures of a Carerra without the rear valence? I think the stainless steel might look better than my banged up rear valence anyway.

Thanks guys.

-Jeff

I dont mind spending money on my car, but the retail price for OEM muffler straps is absurd. find some banding material or something.

check these out:

These are Panduit cable ties. A bag of them from an electrical supply house is probably cheaper than a set of OEM muffler straps. they are lighter at least and stainless to boot.

The Dansk is very similar in size to your stock one, so the original's should be close. They make some stainless hose clamps in very large sizes also if the don't. They are included when buying new.

Yes, you can reuse the original muffler straps. Remember that on a Carrera, the muffler straps are different in size (left and right) so orient them the same way with the Dansk muffler.

Just a guess, but those look a little light. That stuff is available in many widths, I'd say go for at least a one inch (25mm) width, or the widest that will fit on the car that's close to that width.

Jeff, I'd like to see photos of your muffler when it arrives, and since I don't live too far from you, I'd be willing to travel to your garage if you're doing it yourself, just for a chance to see how it looks and how it goes on, or to assist. This is the muffler I'll probably install when the time comes.

You can PM me if you wish.
