Unhappy Shaky after changing Tires

I have just changed my rear tires (sp 8000, 225/50/16) and now the car feels a little shaky at this time. Balance is good, any idea what is wrong ? Bad Tire?? Or is that common for new tires to act that way.

Tire Pressure is 38 rear, 31 front

New tires will feel squirmy until you put a couple of hundred miles on them. Are the fronts the same make & model? Different tread patterns front & back can also alter control in unpredictable ways.

Hey Frenchy 911...welcome aboard! One thing that worked for me was to have the weights placed on the inside(for looks) but also, mounted close to the middle of the wheel(not the outside lip). This seemed to take away any shimmy that I had front or rear.

Good luck! Look foward to meeting you at Kurt's!

Hi Nkita,

.My weight are on the inside so I hope that after few hundred miles this shaking will stop.

I was also noticing this morning that with my top on the Shaky effect was not as bad. Did you noticed anything similar when you driving your car the top off?

I looking forward to meet you on may 15.

I didn't have time to take my top off! After my 2nd trip in the car w/shimmy in the front, I came to the board, did a search, then went to my tire guy and had the weights moved to the center of the wheel. As close to the paddles as possible. He thought I was NUTS!! I found it hard to believe until we did it. Such a small solution for such a big problem. There are many answers on the board grasshoppa! If you had no wheel shake before the new tires and now you do...

Let me know if this helps!

I would more venture to say that if the car feels as though the steering wheel is shaking at low speed you have a bad tire. If it is at a faster speed you may be out of balance or still possibly a bad tire. A slipped belt can cause a definate shake and you don't want to throw a tread or cup the tires from being out of balance. I would go back to whoever put them on and get them checked. The longer you wait the more likely that if there is a problem with the tire they will try to blame it on road hazard. Been there done that.
