If you get the automotive stuff, they should instruct you to let it sit in the sun for a few days.
And I mean leatherique (automotive stuff) btw.
After a day or two, it will definitely not come off. I put some on my seats a few years back.

No matter what it is, it's not dye. It's paint. The only way you can dye leather is right after you take it off the cow.

That is interesting and it makes sense because if it was dye it would mix in w/ whatever the existing dye was, rather than completely change the color, right?

So the leatherique "dye" basically just sits on top of the leather but bonds really well? And is very pliable? I always suspected this since it wears off eventually and the original color is exposed.

I used regular leather dye from the store....but I think I will order some Letherique this week and try that. That is a good question, as to how much better it can/will bond with the leather.

Don't use the "dye' (paint) in areas that will suffer wear, particularly if you're drastically changing the color--i.e. tan seats you're trying to make black. If the seats are already black, you're way better off, but the superficial paint, although it bonds pretty well with the leather, will come off in areas that are subject to bluejeans rivets and the like. Also, like any kind of painting, it's all in the prep work--removing as much as possible of the original dye on the surface and getting the leather ready to accept the new paint. It pretty much requires taking the surfaces out of the car, whether they're seats or side panels, and going at them with sandpaper, steel wool and acetone. And from my experience, I'd suggest going to the trouble of spraying rather than brushiln, just as you woudl with body panels.

Does this mean it's a cheap and effective way to convert those horrible leather interiors to easy maintenance vynyl
