original color or not? 72t ti silver.
Ok the time to get my car in paint is getting closer and closer. Well powdercoat the shell at least. In the next few weeks I will weld in the rear shock RSR braces. The decision on whether or not to flare is still up in the air, if it gets flared it will be SC flares welded on with the lips rolled and reprofiled slightly. So the big question is do I keep it the original silver color or go to something different?
The car is/was very clean to begin with and I have since stripped it down mechanically and electrically to a bare tub with the old nasty paint still on it. So whats cooler a very close to original narrowbody in original color or my take on a modern 911R with my own color? |
I'd say the color you like best is the right color...
|
Well if you look at how many people are making widebody cars then i think the narrow body is going to be that little different.
My two cents Michael |
Make it a stealthy R. Lightweight, but looks stock.
|
I personally would do something very "loud", but still a narrow body. Maybe viper green? I am not much a fan of the whites/silvers on earlies.
|
Here's something I've wanted to do..stealthy R, but narrow body, maybe just slightly massaged to make sure you can get a decent tire in the back...
Interior? Simple..and a dark burgundy/maroon, Exterior? Medium battleship gray. Not metallic, but full gloss. Second choice on the interior would be a warm tan/cork. Handsome, but stealth...but potent! And You WON't see that color combo coming and going! |
Hey Tyson trust me I want it stealth. Pete from Rennspeed has stopped by the shop a few times and I keep on bugging him to get some stuff together for me so I can allocate the proper amount of funds for the bodywork. I rolled one of the fenders already and took the hammer and dolly to it and flared it out slightly and gave the lip a totally different profile. I tried fitting dad's 15x8 under the back but the 245/55 is just a bit "bulgey". I am still up in the air on R tail lights because it might give a clue as to what the car is about.
Question for you Tyson, the rollcage that Dave sells is a pretty much straight bolt in? How much will it set me back? Oh and what do you think about Boxster calipers all around, I might be getting some pretty cheap or will my rebuilt S calipers work fine with such little weight? As for the interior I am going with recovered sparco evo II's, black with either houndstooth in the centers or a really old school burberry pattern I saw on an old benz gullwing car. No headliner, no dash, just black alcantara. I can always put the carpet and rear package tray in later. Dad is heading up to San Francisco on a business trip and is stopping by SRP to pick up some goodies for the car. Cant wait to get those parts. On the subject of making it stealth anything aftermarket will be plated or powdercoated to the same color as the part it replaces, no big crazy wheels, no shiny red calipers, no low pro tires, etc etc. I took my spare rim to school with me and media blasted it then polished the outer lip and I really love the look, 6's and 7's sound good to me on a car that will weigh in around 2000lb. Maybe I can massage a set of 8's under the back who knows. Does anyone have or know of a 3.6 for sale? Dad wants one for his car and the sooner he gets it the sooner I can start tearing down his 3.0 and rebuilding it as my motor. Specs for the car that I am pretty set on but would not hesitate changing for a good reason: RSR coilovers f&r polybronze bushings throughout rear inner monoballs front upper monoball plates and triangulate strut brace, plated gold color alu rear trailing arms, powdercoated black 935 springplates powdercoated black sway bars ??? brakes ??? original or possibly boxster, bead blasted and hard anodized grey one off pedal cluster, possibly dual mc's one off 935 style shift tower very trick and clean heating and air "cooling", no ac persay R doors with window pulls, single door window side windows and rear in acrylic safety plastic with anti scratch coating 993 front glass single wiper in center parked on the right or straight up fg fenders S front bumper in fg fg rear bumper fg decklid and ducktail with trick mounting and 2nd element wing mounts on ducktail HID headlights with amber lenses and very trick light buckets in black dual oil coolers mounted in battery boxes fuel cell with under hood fill, done up to look old school, leather straps and all xrp lines with dry break quick disconnects at engine dry break quick disconnects at calipers as well redone wiring harness with raychem disconnects at bulkheads, new fuse "box" 72 915 tranny with reinforced sideplate cover, horseshoe helper, reinforced main bearing plate, possibly different 5th gear custom equal length headers with small HE boxes muffler for the street with twin tips and cookie cutters megaphones for the track with cookie cutters Motor, based off a 3.0 is all i am going to say for now. Tyson, wanna grab a beer this weekend and kick ideas around? |
