Head light took a rock
One of my stock head lights took a hit from a rock. I'm not ready to do the switch over to H4. The problem is I don't know which replacement bulb to purchace. Can anyone help? 84 Carrera

You might have a common 7" sealed beam.....maybe a pic would help for us to offer better opinions...

I'm unable to post a pic right now. But 11 post down from this one on the 911 technical forum Terry H has posted some pics of his head lights he replaced with H4s. The headlights in his first picture looks like what I need to replace.

Look at Ianc's post here, where he shows "old" vs "new"
My H4 Project (Long w\ pics) the old is a USA spec sealed beam...even has the small aiming "teets" on the front lens so the US shops can use their aiming equipment. Notice that this light mounts to a "cage" inside the headlight bucket. Careful..there are "sealed beam replacement" H4's available...but those are typically made by Hella and will usually have some markings stamped on the lens to know for sure. Wil

99% chance you have stock 7" sealed beam, available @ any auto parts
store. "SEALED BEAM" should be legible on lens (cast into glass). Consider $ 100.00 for H4 conversion with city light feature & 1000% increase in performance. Regards, Jax |

After you remove the body colored trim ring, there are 3 (I think) small screws holding the chrome retaining ring in place. You'll need to remove these to remove the bulb - careful - they may strip, so a dousing of your favorite bolt loosener beforehand is called for.
Once the chrome retaining ring is removed, the entire light assembly can be pulled straight out. If the light assembly and bulb are a single unit, then as jax indicated, you have a sealed beam and any 7" replacement will work. If the bulb itself can be removed from the rear of the lens, then you likely have the Hella H4 drop in replacements. They use an H4 bulb. "Stock" wattage is 55/60 but you can go 80/100 or higher. You might want to consider installing the Sucro relay kit to protect your headlight stalk. I see that your post indicated that the lens took a hit from a rock so ignore my posting about bulbs unless you decide to upgrade...

This might be a good time to mention that "JAX" ( Jackson Pike) is making his first round of appearances on this board...having been highly recommended to me via this thread --->
Best Prices for (new) Cibie Aux Lights? All I can say is that it was a pleasure talking shop with him on the phone ...and my Cibie 35 order is going his way.... Welcome aboard...Jackson... ! -Wil ![]()

I have them. They are European equivalent of what you presently have, but w/H4 bulb & Euro projection pattern. They are recessed in headlamp bezel just as you have now and are indistinguishable from stock units without close inspection. Installation is bolt in other than small
cut in bottom of receiver to accomodate city light. Connections are plug & play, some aiming may be required but can be done easily. No special tools. Can discuss further if you have interest. (770) 932-9311. Jax |

PS to last post, these are real CIBIE units, not cheap knockoffs & the
difference in night vision is unbelievable, without being offensive to oncoming traffic if aimed correctly. I have them in my 86 Carrera. |

I had these "replacement" headlight shells in my 70E. They are very good. I would recommend them to anyone that doesn't like the Bosch H1/H4 look to their car.

...and I have them in my 78SC...unbelievable night vision...especially when tearing across Alligator Alley at 1:30 in the morning...I swear the bugs burst into flames prior to impact!

Meka:
Just understand that these will not look like the Bosch H4's ( aero look)..but will be the same optically superior H4's ...only it'll fit your original look with sugar scoop trim rings....OK? Wil
