high rev misfire after changing ignition points

i recieved the ignition points for my 2.2t marelli distributor and quickly instlled them after doing a little cleaning and lubricating the distributor insides, once installed the engine fired up really nice and idled quite well. It now pulls very well with little hesitation. Problem comes when the revs get to 6000 then it starts to misfire kinda like hitting the rev limit. note, the mechanical rev limiter has veen removed, i have the msd 6al with the rev limit set at 8000. The tach aslo jumps suddenly pass even 8,000. and this never happened before. could this be that the points are floating at high revs because the ignition points i noticed are not the original factory points but replacements by BERU. Thnaks for any ideas on why this is happening.

The three usual causes are contamination on the contacts, dwell (gap) not correct or wrong points. With your symptoms I would suspect points float because the tach acts up (it is getting multiple pulses.)

Start with cleaning and resetting. If that doesn’t cure the problem, reinstall the old points.

Best,
Grady

Point gap too wide. Floats at higher RPM.
Point suck. Go optical or magnetic.

Did you adjust ignition timing afterward ? BERU parts are generally
pretty good. May be too much advance. regards, jax
