79 SC-fuel pump -running continuously

I installed a new fuel pump last week and it is now running continuously ???
i have a new relay coming in from Glenn, and i just swapped out the black one for the red relay , but it's still running all the time and that little devil is to expensive to burn out !!!
The car has not been run in the last two years, so I am doing the preventative maint, stuff and trying to ferret out the gremlins like this.I also recently changed the fuses out with new ones as well.
somewhere i have power to the pump and i don't think i should. This pump should not run continuously should it??
Any thoughts ? Thank you.

No, it shouldn't. For safety reasons. If you have a collision, you will want the fuel pump to stop pumping gasoline onto the hot wreckage, for example. But, running will not hurt the pump. They run all the time while the engine is on.

find the disconnected green plug hanging behind the airbox and reattach it to the sensor plate switch.

By "running continuously" do you mean, running when the ignition is on, or do you mean all the time?

If it's just whenever the ignition is on, yes look for the plug at the back of the airbox, or there's also a two-pronged plug on the floor of the trunk under the fuse box which, when unplugged, will cause the fuel pump to run whenever the ignition is on.

If it's running all the time, and you need to unplug it, or pull the battery to make it stop, then you've got wiring problems. Make sure it's hooked up to a switched hot.

Pmp is continuously live with the engine running.
I will check both connectors(behind the airbox and below the fuse panel in the am, Many thanks for the replys !! I did check continuity at the pump relay terminals(im fuse panel-socket) with the flapper open and closed(terminals 87a and 30 ??) With the flap open I lost continuity/and hzd it with it closed, is this the circuit-purpose of the green connector
I have quite a few airheads(bemers) on two wheels but this is my first "barn fresh airhead of the 4 weel variety and it is just as infectious as two wheels. Intreguiing machine this Porsche is.
