Oil Tank Breather Hoses on a '69

I have a '69 T with Webers and watershed domes. There are 3 connections into the oil tank: one on the filler neck, one to the left of the oil filter, and one above that on the engine compartment wall. Currently I have the breather hose from the crankcase going to the connection on the compartment wall. I have a hose from the filler neck going to a connector from PMO, that then goes to the watershed domes. What connects to the opening left of the oil filter? See pics:

I'm wondering the same thing for my '71T. Sorry I don't know your answer.

Craig,

You got me thinking and I had to go out and look at the 69E.
It goes forward into the body...I think it was for the rear window defogger...the early bodies had hot air defoggers...I think this is where the heat came from...don't know for sure though.

Where are you in KY...I am in Louisville

John

So, you're saying the upper connection doesn't even go into the oil tank? I live in Oldham Co. I'm a member of the Porsche Club in Louisville. I know your name, just can't place the face. You going on the ride on Saturday?

Craig,
That's where the carb air pre-heat hose attaches when a stock air filter assembly is used. The hose goes from there to the snorkel of the air filter. When the cabin heat is turned on, warm air flows to that opening and is directed into the intake air stream via the hose.

Thanks, Dave. I see that my connections are OK. I started her up, and turned on the heater. Sure enought I could feel a flow of warm air coming up from the lower opening. Is there a nice way to cap it? Any thoughts? There use to be a piece of duct tape over it. Not very pretty.

Craig you're correct, the pipe just to the left of the oil filter in your picture does not go to the oil tank. The tank has just one breather...the pipe in the side wall and then the breather on the oil filler neck.

Not going on the ralley Sat but will be at the breakfast....got to get the 911 ready for instructing at Putnam Park DE next week. You may want to come up to the DE to if you have not been to one before. We put the tents together in a cluster in the paddock and have a great time.
