Vancouver Canada P-car owners...

Just curious what mechanic/garage you guys go to?

I posted in the regional section too but I know more people look here, sorry if it's OT.

Thanks,

Nik.

Targa Performance in North Vancouver. Weissach is too rich for my blood. Actually get some parts from bowwow and CIP1.com.

Yes, Weissach is criminal.

I've been going to Frank Aller's Auto Sport in North Van. He's been really good so far. I was just curious as to my options. Targa is by the res land off the Lion's Gate, no?

Where abouts on the Island do you live? My Dad lives up in the Highlands near Langford, I LOOOVE the drive up there, all corners!! There's something sweet about those empty roads in the summer with the sun spraying shards through the mostly covered canopy of trees, no music, just the engine, and more curves than Jennifer Lopez.

I have a sunroof, the experience must be sweet in your targa.

Cheers,

Nik

I keep hearing good things about SCAN automotive in North Van. The owner is PCA and track guy; very into the local "scene". Plus they advertise in our local club magazine, TIMBERLINE, which is always a good thing. 604-980-4542.

I understand that Weissach is expensive for most, but they run a really clean operation and service is tops. I'm good friends with the guys there, and the service manager Stewart has been around, working on cars, since before they even HAD any Porsches in BC. Even if you don't decide to use them for service, check out their shop.

PS - If you haven't already done so, go and join the local PCA region. I promise, it's nothing like the the bad "rep" the PCA has been getting in the past years, especially in So Cal. Many members are DIY types and are more often then not on the this board getting ideas (Jasper?).

I won't post any e-mail addresses here, due to spaming, but you can find info at www.pca-cwr.org

Nik,

I have used Scan (PPI, exhaust, clutch and suspension work) and am very happy with them but their shop is a little far for me. Weissach's rates are a bit much for me but their service and knowledge is great. I've bought my DIY parts there. They also "give back" to the community quite a bit. Jeff Alton (see above post) has worked on my car and is excellent. He is also building a great car. He'll be working on my car again next week.

We actually had a tech night at Weissach last night, which was basically an "Intro to Autocross" evening, with Weissach talking about some of their upcoming events in Mission, Seattle, and in California.

Here are a couple of pics of last night:

I do keep hearing good things about Weissach when it comes to service but I just can't aford them, I'd like to go there as I'm just across the bridge. My one and only service experience experience with them wasn't great actually. I purchased a fuel filter from them a while ago, they sold me the wong one. Oh well.

Btw, your car is easily the purdiest thing in that parking lot! What are those wheels?? Some kind of run-flat setup? They look awsome in that 80's futuristic sort of way.

Sorry to hear about your service experience... I had an issue with them checking my auto-heat controller while they were doing some boost adjustment calibration (the boost knob is between the seats just forward of the controller), and an internal plastic cam was so old that it crumbled, breaking it even more than it was already. They gave me a whole new (used) controller for free.

I find that if you have an issue, Stuart will go above and beyond to make sure you're happy.

As an aside, he's the only mechanic that I've run into that has even HEARD of my DP 935, never mind understood what it involved and how to fix some things on it.

Thanks for the compliment. As to the wheels, those are BBS component wheels with the BBS wheel fans on them. You can get a better look at them in this pic: http://jeffgrant.com/935/935-Pages/Image3.html

(Didn't mean to hijack the thread!)

Is a pre-registration required? I'm new to PCA so I don't know procedures.

Catca, I left you a voice mail...you can disregard.

Hendog-

No pre-reg required, as far as I could tell. Show up at Boundary Bay (directions to be posted shortly on the web site), and bring a $35 reg fee, from what I understand.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. I can't say I've tried a whole bunch of other places but so far Frank has been great. I just get a good feeling from him. I like the fact that he specializes in SC's and has a small shop, it seems more personal. In fact the very first time I went to him for a clutch cable adjustment, he wouldn't take my money!

Creature, what kind of P-car do you own?

Nik

I'm a little late to post here and it's all been said:

SCAN - my #1 choice (I live in North Van). I send everyone there. Old fashioned guys who are speciallizing in air colled 911, and water cooled front engine cars. Big club supporter, built my engine. Drink beer on friday afternoon type of guys.

Weissach - used to be my #1 choice, but they are very high end, they support the ***** out of the club though, and Stuart's depth of knowledge and skills are unmatched.

Targa - not a club supporter but Mikes been around forever and lots of people swear by him. Overcharged me for a tune up once, but has been helpful and accomodating in my searched for used and miscellaneous parts over the years.

Allers - Good rep, don't use him because I have a Mechanic (SCAN). Real small shop - very private. Don't know anyone who uses him but have never heard anything bad at all.

Jeff Alton (CATCA) - working on cars out of his shop at home. Jeff has Porsche disease really bad. Terminal case from what I can tell. Knows and accomplishes WAY more than he should for a guy who has a real job too. Wish he was my neighbour.

I might be able to do a Duffy Lake Road run some time. You'll call me eh Jorian?

nixter - here is my car - 1985 ROW - this is the turnaround at the end of the duffy lake road- This road is best travelled in late spring/early summer - there can be some nasty rocks on the road at the best of times!
