Did I kill my plug wires?

I figured today was a good day to do a little tuning. I changed my dist cap and rotor on the 78 SC, and since the car has always run a bit rich, I put in W*9 Bosch, one range hotter than the standard W*8 plugs. I ohmed my dilapidated stock shielded wires while I was in there; some were at 4.5K ohm, a couple were over 8K ohm. Bentley says 3K ohm.

What the heck, I'll order some new ones. Proceeded to start car. Man, did it run like crap. Put the old cap and rotor on. Same. Put the old plugs in. Same. I thought maybe it was the hotter plugs; guess not.

I suppose all the twisting and jerking of the wires killed the cores. I was hoping it was simple stupidity of having a crossed wire, or a non seated plug end, but that wasn't the case.

I just checked the resistance of #5 wire, hot, after a ten minute drive. The resistance was 228K ohm! A pencil has less resistance.

Anyone else ever have this experience? I know a hotter wire has more resistance (the I squared R thing), but these numbers seem crazy.

Thanks, as usual.
Pat

Instead of the usual, mundane bump, I'll try this instead:

this is what I thijnk

This is what I thinkI know.they all have built in resisitence .If in doubt go to Nappa and buy marine grade wires (they are wire in the inside) .Remove your s.s.shilding off your old wires and install it on your new stuff......pretty strait fwd and saves big $$$s

I don't have any answer, beyond putting in a plug (sis-boom!) for Clewett wires, but I will say the temperamental plug wire thing must be a special zen bonus for 911 owners. Honestly, I don't recall ever worrying so much about plug wires with any other car.
