Rear Bilsteins on a '72...need help

I finally got around to my shock install. I had a problems with the rears. They came out very easily (original Bilstein), but when I went to put in new Bilstein HD's, the lower shock bushing was for a M12, but my bolt was a M14. According to Bilstein part numbers, I have the correct shock. What's up?? Drilling it out is not an option. The wall thickness of the metal bushing looks too thin.

The fronts fit just fine. I have Boge housings and removed, to my suprise, Koni inserts....which were shot. Now I'm at "rally car" height which needs to get fixed, but I want to install the rears first.

I couldn't find an answer searching, but I'm guessing I'm not the first guy to experience this.

Were later banana arms installed in your car at some point? The Bilsteins with 12mm lower eyes are for the early arms, but if you have a 14mm bolt, you have the later arms.

Put the shocks side by side. Are your new shocks shorter than your old shocks? That would confirm it.

Or better yet, post pictures.

Press the old rubber bushings out of your old shocks and press them into your new shocks.
Then install them.

I thought "later arms" means after 1971??

I'm not sure of upgrades, or changes to my car, but here's what I have, and measured during my attempted rear shock install:

Original Bolt: M14 x 1.75 x 95mm long ----fastened with a nut on the opposite end.

Original shocks: Bilstein with 14mm ID bushing

New Shocks: Bilstein HD with 12mm ID bushing.

If I press out the old bushing then I have new shocks with a worn out mounting bushing. I don't want to do that. It was suggested I drill out the new one. I'd reduce the wall thickness by 1mm, and this would make the bushing very thin. I don't want to do that either.

OK, looks like I have the wrong shocks. I have B46-0169, and it looks like I need B46-0167
