backdate questions - door guts/window trim...
OK, so my new (really old) '72T is here, a used up source of donor parts for backdating my '77 C3.
What I'm wondering is if the manual window guts from the '72 can be directly swapped into my '77 doors, along with the window frame and other brightwork surrounding the glass on the '72. If possible, I'd like the black trim to go. On another angle, perhaps I could strip the black trim down to raw aluminum and simply polish it? Additionally, are the windshields the same? I have separation issues on the '77. |
If it is indeed aluminum, you can polish it.

ooh, it may be steel, then, around the windows?
|
just for future searches, (and since there are no conclusive answers to my questions around here) - yes, the '72 door guts will directly swap over to the '77, manual window mechanisms included.
|
can the black be removed and polished on the wondow trim?

My understanding is that the black is anodization and it's a real pain to get off...That said, you can pull them out and hit them with power tools.
I've been thinking about doing this with my car, but I'm scrred I'll never get them back on straight... |
Later cars had black powder coat, not anodizing. That was the case on my '84. The black was not hard to remove.

i think my 1979 is black powder coat. It has flaked off in one section.
