Everybody wants to reinvent the wheel! (LOL) I guess thats what makes this forum such a great thing, lots of opinions. I still have to disagree. I guess in the end its what works for each individual, no need to split the atom here.

A big plus point over uprated bulbs is the low current draw of HIDs.

I guess I have to agree that in certain parts of the US and certainly in most of Yurrup (!) more lighting is necessary.
Maybe I don't drive fast enough any more.....funny that many years ago I drove the same speeds and had no trouble seeing with those old seal beans
Maybe I'm really just getting to be a really old curmudgeon
Or, maybe I just like to "mix it up" on the board now and then
Have fun guys.....

The "force" works pretty well too most of the time. Just get in tune with the universe and you'll be able to "feel' that deer crossing the road a mile up on a long lefthand sweeper.

Unfortunately, the force is not applicable to any sort of bling.

Some deer carry ticks or tularemia -- so be careful how much you "feel" them.

Then there are the ones that object to being felt and try to gore you with their antlers or crush you with their hooves....

I've never had any complaints!

Ok, can someone help the uninformed here?

I have the standard crappy sealed beams on my car. It's been "on the list" to take care of for a loooong time. Too far down the list!

So...I have driven HIDs, and they are fantastic. But I understand the need for proper reflectors and lenses, of course. Does anyone make a kit for an early car that has the whole deal worked out?

randywebb 04-21-2005 05:04 PM

Yes there are various HID kits.

You might want to go to H-4's first tho - they are a lot cheaper.

My old lenses were completly pitted and cracked because of rocks. I was going to replace the lenses and bulbs, but i never thought that the bulbs were bright enough to drive with at night.

I decided to go with the HIDs because it was a kind of now or never thing. I didnt want to have to pay a ton of money later on to get them. The company that made my set only had a few sets left when i got mine. I think they look cool, and the the difference is absolutly amazing.

I cant wait to take the car out at night now on a unlit road. It will be fun.

I hated mine, too. Get H4's from our host. Not expensive and a direct fit even without euro lights. Add 85/100 watt bulbs. Add a Sucro relay. Total time to make the change is about an hour if you don't stop for beer.

Fantastic performance. Really great, and at a fraction of the HID cost.

How do you pass state inspections when the guys says, "Ok....gimme your lows...now gimme your highs...."

" ...I said...gimme your highs...."

Wil

PS-even Dan Stern the lighting guru advise against HID's for lenses that were never designed for them.

lateapex911 04-22-2005 05:00 PM

OK, just for giggles, lets follow through...

If, for whatever reason, an owner of a 911 not originally equiped with HIDs wants to get the best conversion, where would he go, and what would he get...for about how much?
