Aaargh - it happened to me too.
Broken head studs - eeeek.
I was doing a DIY job as per usual, and got stuck so I took it into the shop for a DIY Rescue, and I said while the engine is out please do a valve clearances job on it. Ummm, well, one very sad telephone call told me I had broken head studs ![]() What changes will need to be made to get the '82SC engine to work in my '79 car. I know the voltage regulator is part of the alternator in the later setup - is this a problem? And will the other stuff fit? |

At least you have a "spare engine"... you should be back on the road in no time!

one small question - you trust your shop ? you saw the head stud failed ? you seem to imply that your motor was running fine...not that I want to freak you out or anything but $10,000 engines don't grow on trees these days - you just seemed ' surprised' that it's happened -
why was your engine out anyway ? what DIY were you doing that got to that length!!

Back on the road in no time would be nice.
Yup, I trust these guys, and there was a bit of oil floating around on the bottom of the engine coming from strange places. I bought a crashed car about a year and a half ago and finally got around to swapping the set of SSIs onto my car. In the process I broke an exhaust stud and couldn't get other ones out so I took the SC into te shop. They couldn't get the studs out either and were ging to have to drill them out etc. And I had said to them to do the valve clearances while they had it in there. So it was a blessing they pulled a valve cover off before doing the stud removal job. I wonder which would be a better engine; my '79 Euro rebuilt with JE 9.5 pistons and a 964 (20 21) cam, or the '82 Euro that had a standard rebuild 10,000 miles ago? |
