cruise control problem maybe?

my car scared me again. yesterday, while warming it up i think my throttle got possessed my some poltergeist. i started it, and let the idle settle in. then for no reason at all, the idle went up to 5k. i didnt have the balls to let it sit there and see what was up out back, so i shut it off. upon restart, nothing, nada....perfect idle. i am thinking of disconnecting my cruise control at the CIS throttle arm thing. and let it dangle....trouble is, this problem is VERY intermittent, as it has only happen twice now.....do you think i am on the right track? my cruise sucks anyways, it will make me rev up and down the freeway. not smooth at all.

what gives with my 81SC?

you can just disconnect the cable from the servo and the throttle and just leave the servo alone. 5 minutes max.

Not sure if the same as the Carrera's but at least on the Carreras the plastic clips that hold the cable end closest to the throttle housing break off and then the cable can foul causing a very high idle or even a racing engine like what you had.
