After the engine is unbolted, leave it on the RV jack and lift the rest of the car up using big floor kacks, then put the jack stands under it before doing anything else. Once you get the car high enough you can roll the engine out from uderneath. You will have to get the back of the car up around 30 to 34 inches IIRC.
Once you get the whole thing out, be reaaaaaaaly careful with the two wires for the back up switch, they are brittle and will break, I guaranty it.
Don't forget to undo all the fuel lines and vacuum ines. They will remind you if you forget, but by then you may have damaged something.

Hey Westy,

There is a chance that I will be in the area on Sunday, shoot me a PM with your info and if I do end up there, I will try and swing by if that's OK?

I'm riding Carnegie this weekend - then again, maybe not :)

Motor is out. As I posted in another thread, 2 days, 5 1/2 hours, 7 miller lights, a couple of peppermint Schnaaps, half a dozen walk arounds and feel arounds, two jacks, and the beast is mine. I did this without assitance, and was surprised at how simple this was. When I install the motor, I'm pretty sure I would like to have at least one other person to help with allignment and obstacles. My next motor drop will easily be at least a couple of hours less, now that I understand it and seem to know what I'm doing. I also realize there are a few more tools I need to buy that would drastically cut down on the work time,,,damn, I hate it when that happens!!!!

Chris, sent you a PM. Carnegie??? Come on, ride with the men LOL,,,,,Foresthill at Sugar Pine.

Congratulations!

While it is out:
You may want to replace the O-ring around the thermostat on the top front of the motor. I removed my engine once for a valve adjustment and reinstalled it only to have that O-ring fail the very next day.

seven beer job? wow, not bad for a government worker!

Brian, you just couldn't wait for a weekend, could you? Let us know when it's time to do the install.

OK, this is intersesting. Could have happened while I lowered the motor, but I don't think so. The electrical connection on the back of the throttle body was not connected. Hmmmm. Anyway, ordered everything I think I need. New intake runner boots, o-rings for injectors, o-ring and gasket for throttle body, tune-up / valve adjust kit, oil, etc. Now I just have to take it apart today and see if it IS a blown airbox. If it is, I'll order one, get the CV gaskets. and it should be ready to put in next weekend.

And thanx Rob, I'll get that o-ring, too.

Oh yeah,,,and the shifter bushing is sloppy. Considerable play around the shaft. Gee, ya think that would account for poor shifting? I'll just have to install the new brass one I bought four or five months ago and haven't touched since.

Westy, you really made me laugh on that last one :)

Foresthill??? Out of Auburn? The land of flat trails and no hills?? C'mon now, I have ridden that place all in one day. The black diamond single tracks are OK, and the streams along the way are a nice rest stop, but it's certainly not "manly" riding. :)

How's Sugar Pine ??

For me, nothing comes close to Clear Creek. "Carnage" has some serious hills, but is small and rocky. Good enough to wake up my sorry self though! Maybe we can ride one day. Ever ride the Sierra / Rubicon?

Yeah. not Forresthill proper. Sugar Pine is about thirty minutes further east. 4 dedicated M/C trails, and three for us Quadders. I'm almost 49 years old, so it's more than enough for my tired bones. Especially when it's wet and/or snowy.

Now, back to business. Even with the pop-off valve, I blew my air box. So, an airbox, a new pop-off valve, and CV gaskets, and I should be able to put the motor back in next weekend. Just in time to enjoy spring.

The obligatory engine drop photo is coming. I'll post it tonight, but don't expect no FISHCOP OP.
