Removing rear engine mount bar - in car

I want to remove the rear engine mount bar without dropping the engine (completely) or muffler. Any known workarounds without bending, bashing or cutting?

Thanks,
Sherwood

If you support the engine, you should be able to remove the motor mounts, then remove the 4 bolts holding the mount bar in place, it will be tight, but you can do it...

Art,
Nope. Tried that this afternoon. The corner brackets that contain each motor mount prevent the bar from lifting straight up. The bracket between the pulley and the mount bar prevents forward movement to angle the bar to remove.

I lowered the rear of the engine with a scissors jack about 1.5". Didn't gain me much. I may have to remove the central mount and rear shroud, maybe the muffler too. Can anyone concur? Just want to save a few busted knuckles.

Sherwood,

When I did mine I had to remove the muffler and the rear shroud. Then it was pretty easy - with the motor supported of course.

Regards

Hayden,
Thanks. I was afraid of that. Time to get out the bandages.
